Dracossomagi
Re-visiting this creature from 00Games supplement Halloween Threats (5E). This creature was inspired by two classic D&D creatures, neither of which are considered usable content by WOTC under the OGL. The demilich and the dracolich.
The dracolich is an undead dragon. A demilich is an older form of lich. So, what happens when a dracolich advances so far in years that most of its undead body turns to dust. It becomes a demidracolich obviously. We just weren’t sure how the legal team at WOTC would handle that little bit of monster jujitsu with their intellectual properties so we just made up a new name.
For those that never played 1st edition D&D, the appearance of the demilich in the Tomb of Horrors was probably the most unfair creature ever to be unleashed on players. My design goal with this was to create that same sense of “OMG here comes the TPK!”
Here are the stats for the demidrac…. for the Dracossomagi.
The original demilich had quite a few “save or die” abilities. Our creation has some as well. If a creature is paralyzed by its frightful presence then its breath attack automatically reduces the poor target to 0 hp. Our draco-version also has an ability to consume souls. All the miscellaneous abilities with the grave dust are also a throwback to the original TOH beastie. Even that lair action where it can summon a Sphere of Annihilation is an homage to the orignal Tomb module (although a 5e SoA basically sucks in comparison to the auto-kill sphere of the past).
Just a reminder that this eSupplement is available as a pdf from DriveThruRPG, HERE.
